	Follow-up measurements should also be carried out at a minimum of six-monthly intervals, allowing the growth velocity to be calculated. The growth velocity is a very important clue as to the pattern of growth taking place. Abnormality of growth velocity requires systematic investigations directed at the diagnosis of systemic or endocrine pathology.
